I have an Intranet that has built in to every page a security architecture written in PHP that requires authentication to view content. After the initial auth request, pages reference the HTTP_AUTH_USER and HTTP_AUTH_PW variables to do a LDAP lookup to ensure that the user is allowed to view the content.

Of course, it didn't dawn on me that my search engine isn't going to get very far if it can't authenticate against my security infrastructure. That is, until I installed it and index a grand total of two words.

So, the question is, can htdig supply a username and password to an HTTP_AUTH request to gain entry to a password-protected site for indexing? Any help would be appreciated.

If this is answered in the documentation somewhere, I apologize for the question. If it is, I haven't been able to find it.

Thanks again.
