Well, actually, this was one of Roger's questions, and yes, it is OK
to add the -a option the first time rundig is run.  When you run the
standard rundig script with the -a option, or make that the default by
defining alt=-a in the script, it does indeed move the .work files into
place after htdig and htmerge have run.

There's no problem with using the -a option even when you have no
databases built yet.  In fact, because rundig runs htdig with -i,
it's always going to build the databases from scratch, so no existing
databases are needed.
