Help Please.. inherited system since "you know more about Linux than anyone else does" syndrome here....
Running HTDig 3.2.0b3 and when I run rundig these are the results I get:
FATAL ERROR:WordDBPage::Uncompress read wrong num worddiffs
FATAL ERROR at file:WordDBPage.cc line:335 !!!
/usr/bin/rundig: line 36: 15557 Segmentation fault (core dumped) $BINDIR/ht
dig -i $opts $stats $alt
Have you tried manually deleting all of the database files and reindexing from scratch? If that doesn't solve the problem, you might take a look at the compression related attributes, such as wordlist_compress (http://www.htdig.org/dev/htdig-3.2/attrs.html#wordlist_compress), which allows you to enable/disable compression. Aside from that, all I can suggest is that you consider upgrading your version of ht://Dig. The b3 release is a very old beta. There are current b4 snapshots available and there will hopefully be a b5 release real soon now.
