I'm new to HtDig, and am having some difficulty getting the results I think
I should be getting. I have created three simple test pages, with
permutations of Title, Meta Description and Meta Keywords and some unique
words that I felt would set these pages apart from the majority of our web
pages. I then set the following in htdig.conf:
backlink_factor: 0 date_factor: 0 description_factor: 100 heading_factor_2: 64 heading_factor_3: 32 heading_factor_4: 16 keywords_factor: 100 meta_description_factor: 100 title_factor: 100
However, none of the pages appear when I search for the unique words
embedded in the pages. Hope someone can shed some light on what I'm missing.
Did you ensure that your test pages were either explicitly specified to htdig or linked from other documents that are reachable from your start_url? Did you verify that htdig ran successfully after adding the test pages?
If you have covered the two points above, the next step is probably to try reindexing with verbose output so that you can see what is happening (e.g. rundig -vvv). You can then check the output to see if the test documents are being found and whether they are being indexed. If you add enough -v's, you can get to the point of seeing each individual word that is being indexed.
