Doh indeed... I admit I was totally stumped.

Yes it was my addition - but I sent several patches with this and did not
myself enter it into the CVS tree (I still have to learn CVS). Maybe I sent
different versions using different strings... (my own code, still edited
3.1.0b4 worked ok)

As to what it should be - no preference (as long as it's a legal SGML
comment declaration); but it's probably easier to change the documentation?
