Now, since H::T is really a whole lotta fun when DBI is installed, can I do the same with DBI? I looked around and was able to find some relevant DBD files (I am interested in using either DBD::Sprite or DBD::SQLite... this is lightweight -- for teaching), but I couldn't figure out the DBI components. I hope that can be installed without the Developers Tools as well.
Following Pete Prodoehl's and Benjamin Warfield's advice, and going further, I copied the entire /Library/Perl from my iBook (where everything was originally installed) on to my daughter's iMac (without any dev tools).
I cursorily checked SQLite... works just fine.
In response to Benjamin Warfield specifically:
..
Unfortunately, you may or may not actually be able to build DBI on OS X--I
tried it on 10.2.5 (or possibly 10.2.4--can't recall) and failed
miserably.
I never had any problem with DBI, or any of the DBDs I have installed thus far... MySQL, SQLite, Sprite. I forget when I installed them, but I am now at OS X 10.2.6 and nary a problem. I am still working with Apple's stock Perl 5.6.0 install... upgrade's not worth the hassle.
Hopefully this will help others with OS X and wanting to use H::T. Sorry for the non-H::T noise, and thanks for the help.
Puneet.
