French communists embrace supermodel chic
LONDON, England (CNN) - In the cash-strapped, cachet-starved world of French communism, there are times for hammers and sickles. And there are times for handbags and slit skirts.
October 13 was an occasion for the latter as the creme of France's Communist creme flung open the doors of the party's Parisian headquarters to a very unproletarian mix of supermodels, DJs, and fashion designers.

Man breaks into library, gets trapped, calls 911
LAS CRUCES, New Mexico - A man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly breaking into a library then calling 911 when he found himself trapped inside.
Police said that while wandering through the library, after breaking a windowpane to gain entry, the man got caught between the outer and inner doors of the foyer. He then used the pay phone in the foyer to call for help.

Woman sentenced to writing sentence 100 times
AKRON, Ohio - A 22-year-old woman, who was arrested for obstruction of justice, was sentenced to writing, "I will not lie to the police," 100 times.
Her arrest came on September 22 when her husband, who was wanted by police, was found hiding in her attic. "It was stupid," she said.

Dumbbell puts bombshell in hospital
HOUSTON, Texas -- A wayward dumbbell is forcing ex-Playboy playmate Anna Nicole Smith to miss a week of the trial in which she's battling for as much as $800 million of her late husband's estate.
Smith, 32, dropped a dumbbell on her hand last week during a workout, damaging a major nerve in her left hand, said her lawyer.
