No, not really. Commons VFS is unable to cut a official release because of its dependency on JCIFS, so there would have been some traffic on commons-dev on this issue if there were any news regarding the use of LGPL licensed code in ASF projects. Anyways, legal stuff aside there is absolutely nothing that prevents us (or any prospective contributor) from implementing an AuthScheme based on JCIFS, releasing it under LGPL on any public hosting site, and then re-licensing it under ASLv2 and contributing the code for inclusion into HttpComponents / Commons HttpClient when all legal issues are dealt with.
