Still the case in 2011.2 . It's been optimizing (temporary "quick look") for an hour now. (actually, I remember doing this on my laptop on this pano a few days ago, and it finished MUCH faster than this).

Status in Hugin - Panorama Tools GUI: Confirmed Bug description: Sometimes while working on a big pano, it is useful to optimize a bit, so that you can see where everything goes. It doesn't pay to wait for the optimization process to have found the optimum. I'll go for 50 average distance while 6 is achievable. (I know that 0.6 is achievable... I had that half an hour ago.) I just want the new control points to pull the recently connected images in the right direction so that I can see what images they overlap with. So when I cancel the optimization, I should be able to do so with a "and I want to keep the currently-best-results".
