Aaargh..... I've been trying (for hours and hours) to find where to fix
this, I'd gotten and compiled the 2011.2 sources, but appear to have
been running the older 2010.4 version. :-(

It seems that currently, as I wanted, the "apply anyway" dialog is
shown, even if you cancel the optimization step.

One minor nit: the "cancel" button can now be called "abort now" or
something like that.

Title:
  Aborting optimization.

Status in Hugin - Panorama Tools GUI:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Sometimes while working on a big pano, it is useful to optimize a bit,
so that you can see where everything goes. It doesn't pay to wait for
the optimization process to have found the optimum. I'll go for 50
average distance while 6 is achievable. (I know that 0.6 is
achievable... I had that half an hour ago.) I just want the new
control points to pull the recently connected images in the right
direction so that I can see what images they overlap with. So when I
cancel the optimization, I should be able to do so with a "and I want
  to keep the currently-best-results".
