Here is a link to an image where Nona gives banding in the remapped
image, even without using exposure correction. I used PTMender on the
same files, there was no banding. By banding I mean the image becomes
posterized in bands or rings in areas where there is very little
contrast.

The original files don't have any banding, but they must be very
close, since I can't even make a JPEG in Photoshop without getting
banding. Usually I don't have many banding issues unless I use
exposure correction for some reason.

My question is: What is the difference between how Nona and PTMender
remap files? Why is the colour different? What causes the banding in
one and not the other?

You can see the original TIFFs, PTO file, PTMender Script and
derivative JPEGs at
http://www.23degrees.net/easy_fetch/11d41b882ace73c6c1f23b7375250f46/

I ran the test three times on OS X 10.5.5
1. PTmender Version 2.9.12 - No Banding
2. nona version 0.7.0 - Banding and missing colour profile
3. nona version 0.7.0a (modified source to include ICC via ExifTool,
the official release of Nona OS X does not put ICC profiles into
mapped images) - Banding

The file: Nikon D200 uncompressed RAW converted to 16 BIT TIFF in
Photoshop CS3, ProPhotoRGB ICC profile. The exposures were long enough
to cause some noise in the original files. Noise was removed mostly
from the blue channel with very weak Noise Ninja processing. I checked
for banding in Photoshop CS3 at 100% on a 24 inch iMac (this monitor
that has no banding problems, unlike the smaller versions)

I also tried the same files before Noise Ninja with all the original
noise of the D200 and the result was same banding problem.

* NOTE: all the JPEGs contain banding due to the compression, you will
need to download the original 16 BIT TIFF files.
