Of course this is a solution (well, more of a workaround actually), but a) it requires an extra rendering step which shouldn't be necessary and b) the more reprojection, the more quality loss because of interpolation and extrapolation. The latter can be circumvented partly by rendering the equirect at a higher resolution, but this will take even more memory, processing and thus time. It's nice to have a workaround but it'd be even nicer to not have to have a workaround...
