Maybe it's common to you, but I never had this issue personally, and I still don't. My Sony laptop (Core2 Duo with Centrino2 technology) is running Vista SP2 (no problems on the former SP1 either). I haven't tweaked my system against DEP or anything like that either (if that's even possible), it ran out of the box. Maybe there's an issue with your configuration?
