the wiki page is a moving target. it is likely that some library name 
has changed since 8.04. Go and look in its history - good that Ubuntu 
has the date in the version number :)

While I see and understand the user's need for the latest and greatest 
features, I think what we are doing is very effective.

If I understand Ubuntu's policy right, Hugin-0.8.0 may be part of Ubuntu 
09.10 but not backported to earlier supported versions.

There is infrastructure for the community to provide such backports on 
Launchpad's Personal Package Archives 
<https://help.launchpad.net/Packaging/PPA>

Is anybody here familiar with packaging for Ubuntu?

I think it would be nice if we, as a project, can provide binary 
packages for all supported Ubuntu version.

In the meantime, Zoran and the other users... patience. You have been 
able to build from SVN on 9.04? either use that or wait.
