Ubuntu uses the debian packaging system. Thus before calling
"dpkg-buildpackage" you need to have some debian/... files that tell
it what to do. A good starting point would be whatever the old ubuntu
distribution had.
So:
> apt-get source hugin
> cd hugin-...
> fakeroot dpkg-buildpackage
(test building the old version.
> ... # install the current sources instead of the old ones.
> fakeroot dpkg-buildpackage
Should be the sequence required to build a package...
