to the list admins: in "group settings" => "access" all at the bottom is "Message Moderation". There is a checkbox for "Messages from new members are moderated". Please tick it.
this group has passed the 1000 members, and is growing on an almost daily basis. It's inevitable that it attracts spammers as well. this should keep at bay spammers who *post*. a nastier kind of spammer just subscribes and "listens" to the messages as they pass by, harvesting the senders email addresses. those can't be fully prevented, but setting "Who can join?" to "People can request an invitation to join" and adding a custom question such as "what hugin and related tools for?" should set a high enough barrier for the list admin to filter out most of them. <http://www.securityfocus.com/news/11256> is my very personal wish to all spammers.
