Hi Yuv, "Messages from new members are moderated" is already active. What I miss is a log file that actually tells me what happened (and it just took me some time now to wade through all the settings and related pages). I'm pretty sure I filed both messages as SPAM (although the X-Google-Approved tag reports something different). These messages are deleted now, the user is reported and banned. There was only a very short time frame for that spammer to access.
