Hi all,
In short:
I am a graduating bachelor CS student, I love photography, I have been
using hugin for years, I want to join the hugin project, I want to apply
for gsoc for the hugin project, you'll hear more from me :-)
In long:
I am a final (3rd) year bachelor student at Jacobs University Bremen,
Germany studying Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
I am currently working on my guided research for bachelor thesis on a
technique for registration of 3d point clouds from terrestrial laser
scanners, where for pairwise registration I generate a panorama image
from the scans and then extract SIFT features from the panorama image,
match the features
and register the point clouds in one reference frame.
I don't really remember when I started using hugin, I think it was
around first year when I also started using ubuntu, however I remember
it blew me away :), in the sense of just how much can open-source
communities offer.
I am actually very pro-linux, pro-open-source etc., and always arguing
with people that Microsoft is 'evil' and linux is better than windows
:), and so I am very eager and excited to contribute to open-source.
I figured this summer would be perfect to start contributing, since it's
the first time I'm going to have free time since I got some grasp on CS
and science, and obviously GSoC is a perfect choice.
Hugin/panotools project is more than perfect choice for me in the sense
that first it deals with what I am specializing, and what I want to
continue with master's, and second it deals with photography, and I
actually have a big interest in photography. Recently I've spent a bunch
of my student-earned money to buy myself a DSLR (Canon EOS1000D). Also,
ever since I learned about hugin I am always shooting multiple shots for
panorama images :).
I went through the wiki page with ideas, and I noticed that it's mainly
some fixes/short additions to the program and personally I would work on
some new thing (maybe I will come up with some idea in the following
weeks), just I would like to ask if it's more in the interest of the project
those ideas on the wiki page, or some ideas for new stuff (maybe even
something larger, not to be finished completely for gsoc)?
In any case, I am going to get the code, stare at it for some time, use
the program and post something afterwards.
Best regards,
Darko Makreshanski
P.S.: This is my first time to introduce myself to a development list
(so far just questions), so please be gentle with me :)
