patch committed and pushed to the repo on SF, thanks Thomas. The
notify hook had a problem so I am not sure that an email has been sent
to hugin-cvs as it should have. I have tried to fix it in the hgrc -
will need another commit / push to test.
tested official repository now. The first pull took about 2 hours. Is
this normal or because of high traffic on the sf server?
I fixed in the mean time some more issues.

I think, you did the right thing. Have a look on the graphic
representation of the repo
http://hugin.hg.sourceforge.net/hgweb/hugin/hugin/graph
There you can see that with your merge you merged the 2 "heads" (one
with my changes and the one with your changes). I think, we will see
this more in the next time.
