Ok, I found a "solution" in camera/lens tab, reset all photometric info (exposure, etc.). reset the exposure to ZERO.
then in the preview window they are all black. to fix that, I reset the EV using the little arrow button. But again, this didn't used to happen, and this is not so nice - and I really know what I'm doing. Pity anyone who tries hugin for the first time, they will probably give up and uninstall hugin.... which would be a shame. At any rate, can I file this as a bug?
