Please excuse the newcomer questions... about distortion and lens models for
Hugin.
Many of your answers can be found here.
http://wiki.panotools.org/Lens_correction_model
1. Are the parameters a,b,c,d,e,g,t different for EVERY lens, or, only
different for each lens brand/model?
Each lens model should have the same abc (distortion) and v (Field of View)
values. But it will also change based on the cropping done with different cameras.
every individual camera will have different de (shift) values
unless you are using film and scanning you should not have any gt (shear)
2. If the latter, where does one get the lens parameter file to read into
Hugin?
The easiest way is to calculate them yourself using Hugin optimization. Use a
good aligned pano head and plenty of overlap and a full 360 deg worth of images.
3. If the former, how does one go about getting the parameters for their
particular lens?
This is a work in progress. There is a data base of values but they are not
easily transferable from one lens and camera to the same lens with a different
camera model.
4. Are these parameters stored in the lens itself (Nikkor DX) and presented
in the EXIF or other meta data?
The EXIF data can be used to get a close v value, but not to the accuracy that
is needed. Optimization is needed.
5. If these parameters are not entered but enough CPs are use to produce a
good stitch, will then Hugin know what these parameters are and be able to
write out a lens profile?
Once you have optimized these values once they can be saved and used again. The
more knowns going into the optimization the fewer control points needed to
optimize the remaining unknowns.
