Most raw developing programs use dcraw code to read and decode raw files, but very few actually use the dcraw post processing. There are better highlight recovery algorithms, there are far better interpolators, better white balance techniques, denoising and so on. dcraw even treats the camera orientation sensor differently on some cameras (it uses maker notes instead of EXIF) and it delivers a different image size.
As I wrote before: A shell script to create three temporary files by varying the dcraw -b parameter and a subsequent enfuse will provide you with the desired functionality.
