First, it is slow. Second, it does not work that well as the paper suggests. This is because of few obvious problems with the algorithm - eg. it does not apply any exposure correction, which may introduce quite big error into its probability function. Generally speaking, the outcome depends a lot on the input images.
I will take a look at the test files you posted. There might be some unnoticed bug. However, it will take me some time, because I found out that I'm not very productive while having a fever.
