Emaad,
Here is a VR I made of a room at an exhibition of prints of my
panoramas in 2008:
http://worldwidepanorama.org/wwp_rss/go/n5257
The prints were made by a company in London called "The Print Space"
http://www.theprintspace.co.uk/ the largest of those was 0.75mx
1.5m. Any printer with a large-scale ink jet should be able to do
them for you at a price! When you print at that sort of size you
finally see every flaw and every grain of dust on your camera's
sensor. So you really need to check every pixel before the image goes
to the printer.
I found that, because of the distortion, people had difficulty
"reading" the bottom and top 5% or so of an equirectangular image. So
rather than printing in the 2:1 ratio of a full equirectangular I
found that the 12:5 aspect ratio worked better ... with a little strip
cropped top and bottom - in the case of clear skies I probably took a
little more off the bottom than the top.
In the exhibition in that VR I also had square images generated with
a polar-transformation - more recently I have used Hugin's
Stereographic projection to achieve a similar effect. I found that
having a mixture of stereographic and rectangular panoramas helps the
visitor get the idea that they are looking at (almost) full 360°
panoramas.
It is easy to get fixated on showing the full 360° ... but not every
print needs to use the whole image. I have found that cropping images
to as little as 200° can produce a panoramic image that still has
plenty of impact and often more impact than would be possible with a
complete equirectangular image. [ for example
