I found it look for SFM solutions, it's absurdly fast (running on an old GTX285). Don't know if it will be of any help, but it can't hurt. I poked it a bit to see if it'll output useful data for hugin, but didn't get far.

Also VisualSFM http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/ccwu/vsfm/index.html is interesting. It's image matching is also lightning fast.

Someone familiar with cpfind should take a look at those two projects.
