Coincidentally I played with VisualSFM as well. Yes, SiftGPU runs
blazingly fast on my Radeon HD 4200 as well. However, it didn't find
enough features to allow VisualSFM produce a 3d-reconstruction.
siftwin32, which runs on the CPU, took 20 times as long but found much
more features and led to a good reconstruction...

Well, it's working VERY nice for me, seems as you have hit a bug. My fried had a similar problem on his laptop (nVidia GT240 IIRC). Running SiftGPU on the same input photos produced useless results, about 1000 times less matches then my desktops (gtx285 and gtx260). You should try it on a nVidia desktop card with enough vRAM. I think that might be the problem or the drivers. In any case play with the settings, see if it helps.
