Were you able to capture the whole boat and occupants in one nadir shot (and no horizon?) Just curious how you approached the problem. In a boat it can be so hard to get a good stitch since the boat is constantly moving relative to everything else.
That's exactly the problem: the boat is constantly moving. In this case it was easier than for Bernhard who did this earlier on a sailing boat: <http://worldwidepanorama.org/wwp_rss/go/n3001>
I used a monopod which I held realatively high so both men in my panorama don't "touch" the horizon or parts of the surrounding landscape. While turning around I tried to hold the camera in the relative same spot related to the boat as the landscape is far enough away. Lots of shots with huge overlap. Needless to say I really had to concentrate on not falling into the ice cold water while shooting. For the nadir shot I stepped right beside one of the fishermen and tried to capture as much of the boat's flat "deck" as possible.
So from the resulting shots I was able to stitch two panoramas: one with the boat plus all the water (with my nadir shot in the center at y0 p0), and a second one with the landscape, also including the water. An Example for heavy usage of hugin's masking feature.
I had to combine both panoramas in a second step and was able to use the water in both panoramas as blending area. Still a lot of post processing had to be done in Photoshop, especially to fix the sides of the boat. Here I used parts of the separately remapped images.
