The key feature is *viewing* PTO files without having to stitch them
first. The recent addition of optional 'proper' stitches of what you
    see
in the live view is a nice-to-have extra.

I did a short test on Windows.
When opening a medium sized pto project, the (full) screen remains white for about a minute (without any feedback). During this time the viewer takes all available memory and blocks the computer. Hugin opens the same file immediately and remains responsive. It tooks about 20 s until all full images are loaded. The memory usage is also significant lower.

A short test with the exposure fusion resulted in bright and dark areas instead of nicely fused result.

Thank you for your feedback. It's easier for me to fix bugs if you include the version of lux (bundle) you used, the PTO files involved, and possibly the images. Then describe your invocation of lux (command line parameters) and which UI action you performed to lead to the result which you're not happy with. I'll see if I can reproduce what happened. If you invoked lux from the command line, the console output can also be helpful.
