Not that I think hum is natural or innocent of distortions, but such reported solar mechanism remind us how little we know, or are informed about. Every 8 minutes our world is twanged by the the suns magnetism- and nobody knows why... strikes me a lot of potential energy can be fed into our planet via this route and a low freq hum could be the 3rd harmonic of an excited Schumann resonance. Just a thought....
