While I agree with you on putting pressure on regimes that oppress its citizenry by any & all ways possible , my view is that we should not be selective while doing it . There should be clarity in our actions.
There are many a countries whose acts have created sufferings & arm conflicts for many people . A few glaring examples: 1. The UN decision to create an Israel for Jews while the same countries are denying Palestinians the right to own their land till today . The western policies towards Arabs are in a big part responsible for the unrest we see from Algeria to Syria today . The West has as a norm supported despots , refused to recognize the democratic rights of the peoples , with an aim to gain access to cheap oil & to preserve Israel's existence. 2. Saudi - Pak nexus of funding & training terrorists . 3. The presence of Swiss & other tax havens where bribe , drug , crime , arms deal , corruption money is stored safely & then lent by these banks to to the western economies. The great clockwork precision of Swiss economy runs on trillions of $s they charge to keep , even better than getting loads of free money to use. This money is lend it out to western economies & corporates too to make good profits . No ethical or moral dilemma here for church going Christians here . 4. Selective intervention in conflicts . The Bangladesh people's uprising , massacre of lacs & displacement of over 1 cr refuges saw no tears shed by US & UN as Pak was their ally. No sanctions here , no human right violations , no boycott of Pak Army & politicians , & no war costs imposed on Pak ? And Pak Army is still happy doing the dirty job of hired mercenaries for US till now for good money & we too get to taste the fallout of this terrorism almost is daily basis , if Kashmir too is included . We live in world where the debate of the dream to have universal & equal access to human rights to the most powerless & punishment to those whose acts of omission & commission , how ever powerful , is yet to begin . -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "humanrights movement" group.
