On the one hand there are genuine concerns in respect of
the Areva Reactor which is to be installed at the Jaitapur Nuclear
Power Plants as it is UNTESTED and the location is a SEISMIC
ZONE; on the other hand the Minister Rane made a statement
in the Maharashtra Assembly that 11 Corporates who have invested
in energy/electricity had paid the Shiv Sena 500 crores for their
recent agitation and that the meeting was held by the Sena
only after the money was paid .If so why no arrests ????
However while local people are being arrested and
retired Judge of the High Court Justice Kolse Patil was
also arrested at one point of time and is a member along
with Justice P.B.Sawant and others of the Tarapur to Jaitapur
protest in support of the Jaitapur peoples movement not of
the Shiv Sena ; there were no arrests of those who allegedly
paid the 500 crores or some such sum or those who received the
money by the State government .
This raises several questions . On the other hand local citizens
have been killed and injured and on the other hand despite
knowledge of payment of such amounts powerful interests
are left untouched even as citizens on the ground are being
dealt with a heavy hand .
Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure has also been
promulated to obstruct the movement .After the fiasco of
the Dhabol Power Plant there is very little confidence in
the region on the assurances being held out and no answer
as to why the Reactor is an untested reactor .
After Fukushima , the earlier approach to citizens grievances
does not suffice in particular in view of the communication
of Jairam Ramesh that strategic and foreign policy considerations
are involved , is it because of the manner in which the Nuclear
Club was placated on the 1 2 3 Agreement ???????
It is also being spread locally that the Tarapur to Jaitapur
citizens protest movement is spear headed by Communists
of what complexion has not been clarified as the statement
is absurd !!!!!!
Is there something else at stake other than peoples interest
in safe energy and development ??? Why has the earlier
peaceful agitation of the local people invited a heavy
had by state forces .
