Joseph John Raipur: Tension cropped up at Kanker in Bastar region after a group of people, including a large number of women, marched towards the Chhattisgarh Counter-Terrorism and Jungle Warfare College (CTJWC) after two cooks working there were arrested by the police on the charge of rape of two minor girls. Two cooks, identified as Lekhraj and Suresh Kumar, were arrested on late Friday night following a complaint lodged by parents of one of the rape victim and the CTJWC later suspended them, Kanker police told the Indian Express. According to the complaint, the accused went to Pathari village on a new motor cycle, without number plate, on Thursday night. On finding two minor girls, the accused took them to a forested area and raped them. Later they abandoned the motor cycle and fled from the spot after they noticed some people passing through the area. The victims, studying in class nine and ten, their parents informed, who lodged a complaint with the police, leading to the arrest of both the accused under section 376 and 506 of Indian Penal Code. “Both the accused are cooks and were not part of the security personnel who are to be imparted training for guerrilla warfare. In fact we ourselves have handed over the accused to the police so that strict action could be taken against them as per the law†, CTJWC Director Brigadier (Retired) B K Ponwar, said. Agitated over the incident, a group of people -- mostly women -- reached the Jungle Warfare College this afternoon, to protest against the incident. Police force has been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident. Officials said Brig Ponwar himself was talking to agitated villagers so as to pacify them, promising that stern action would be taken against both the accused. http://www.indianexpress.com/news/jungle-warfare-college-staffs-held-on-rape-charges-in-bastar/783905/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "humanrights movement" group.
