Media Fellowship on Child Labour in Cotton Save the Children, Bal Raksha, Bharat Location: Maharashtra Last date: 14th Aug. 2011 Save the Children announces two Media Fellowships for young print journalists. The Fellowships are designed to encourage in-depth coverage of the issue of child rights with focus on child labour in agriculture. Applications are invited from journalists and writers with over four years relevant experience to work on a freelance basis over six months on field based stories from Maharashtra. Selected candidates will be known as Save the Children Fellows, and will be awarded up to Rs.25,000 (per person for one month), inclusive of expenses, for their contributions. The Fellowships aim to strengthen quality in-depth reporting on child rights issues in the area of child labour in cotton. This means significantly advancing stories that have not been covered adequately and breaking new ground. The Fellows are expected to have a commitment from their organizations that their pieces on the issue will be published on merit. The selected Fellows will be both from the English print media and vernacular (Marathi) print media. * In order to be considered for the Fellowship all candidates must submit the following: A one-page résumé, written in English or Marathi, detailing work/educational experience and contact numbers of two references. A maximum of two published articles that will demonstrate the applicant’s ability to write in-depth pieces in an engaging voice. A detailed pitch of one or two ideas. Please tell us (a) the idea, (b) what is new and enterprising about it or why it is important, (c) why is it timely, (d) why you are the right person to do it, and (e) your reporting approach. Each pitch should not exceed 500 words. * Guidelines and Deadlines: Fellowships are limited to print journalists and writers.
