Senior Media Officer *Senior Media Officer Greenpeace India* Location: Delhi Last Date: September 1, 2011 Email: [email protected] Greenpeace India, Delhi Purpose of the Media Unit One of the critical components of a successful campaign for Greenpeace is a robust media relations plan. The media unit is entirely responsible for building & implementing a media relations plans for each of our campaigns & projects and to give each campaign the required media push. Purpose of the role To use media to achieve environmental change. To develop media strategies and plans and communicate to the English & Hindi media about Greenpeace campaigns. What will you be doing? Develop an understanding of the campaign issues we work on and build a media strategy for assigned campaigns/campaign projects Keep updated on national/international trends, political-economic issues, and other developments relevant to Greenpeace campaigns Track news and information on Greenpeace campaigns & related news both locally and globally Write press releases, advisories in English/Hindi, edit campaign reports and possibly write on material i.e. blogs etc. Understand and use media planning and media analysis techniques to develop media strategies Create and further opportunities to profile Greenpeace, its campaigns, and environmental issues in the media (English/Hindi) Develop a network of media contacts (print & electronic media) and interact with the journalists regularly (English/Hindi) Plan the logistics for and organise for press conferences and other media events Ensure the interest of Greenpeace on content and copyright is upheld Coordinate with the media team, campaigns staff and support the Media manager Supervise a team of media officers and photo and video officers during a campaign project Deputise for the manager if needed What you need for this position? More than 5 years of experience in handling media (English/Hindi) Strong news sense A degree in mass communication/journalism/public relations Experience in developing and implementing media strategies Ability to turnout PRs within a short time span, editing skills and preferably a flair for writing Potential to be a spokesperson for the organisation Knowledge of media operations and editorial policy Fluency in written and spoken English and/or Hindi. Knowledge of another Indian language would be preferred. A good network of contacts with print and electronic media, including at the level of Editors What’s in it for you?
