*Prof Angela Davis, Afro American academic, writer and Marxist activist
speaks at the OWS rally on Oct 28th, West Philly ,US :* “I want to thank
you for helping to reinvent our political universe ..We talk about the
importance of building a movement that is inclusive...Movements in the past
have primarily appealed to specific communities whether workers, students,
black communities, Latino communities, women, LGBT communities, indigenous
people..All these movements had been organized ...around specific issues
like the environment, food, water, Prison Industrial Complex...Speaking of
the Prison Industrial Complex, this is the movement which I had been
previously associated with..So, we have called for reduction of prison
population .We has called for the eventual evolution of prisons and the
dominant mode of punishment….
We have come together as the 99%.
There are major responsibilities linked to assembling here as communities.
Let the differences must not merely be tolerated but seen as a fond of
polarities through which our creativeness can spark like a dielectric.
I end by sharing the language of the poster in Oakland protest
“Decolonize Oakland. We are the 99%.
We stand united.
Nov 2nd 2011, General Strike.
No Work.
No School.
Occupy everywhere. Occupy Everywhere.”
