From: Mansi Sharma <[email protected]> Date: Fri, Mar 9, 2012 at 11:27 AM Subject: Candlelight Vigil at India Gate on Fukushima's First Anniversary (March 11, 2012) To: anil chaudhary <[email protected]> *CANDLE LIGHT VIGIL* *On the Occasion of* The 1st Anniversary of Fukushima March 11, 2012 (Sunday) *6 PM at India Gate, New Delhi* Dear Friends, The world’s first multiple-core meltdown in Japan’s Fukushima is an ongoing disaster and its consequences would continue to haunt the humanity for decades to come. The disaster has brought forth stories of unimaginable grief, trauma and losses. Fukushima has also exposed the systemic failure of the profit-driven nuclear industry and the inherently unsafe nature of nuclear power. Fukushima has led to widespread changes in opinions and policies on nuclear energy. In our country, people in Koodankulam (Tamil Nadu), Jaitapur (Maharashtra), Mithivirdi (Gujarat), Chutka (Madhya Pardesh), Fatehabad (Haryana), Kovada (Andhra Pradesh) and Kaiga (Karnataka) have waged tumultuous struggles against the nuclear insanity of our ruling classes. People are also agitating against hazardous uranium mining in Jharkhand, Andhra and Meghalaya. Fukushima’s first anniversary must also be an occasion for us to acknowledge these ongoing struggles and support a nuclear free future for all. This Sunday would mark the first year of the Fukushima disaster. It is important that we join hands to express our sympathies and solidarity to people of Japan. You are invited to join us at a candle-light vigil at India Gate on Sunday, March 11 at 6 PM.
