आज हिन्दी के चार लेखक संगठनों--जनवादी लेखक संघ, प्रगतिशील लेखक संघ, जन
संस्कृति मंच और दलित लेखक संघ--ने प्रधानमंत्री को पत्र लिखने वाले 49
कलाकारों और बुद्धिजीवियों पर 62 अन्य लोगों द्गवारा किये गए हमले की निंदा
करते हुए एक संयुक्त बयान जारी किया| बयान का पाठ हिन्दी और अंग्रेजी में इस
प्रकार है:

लेखक-कलाकार हमेशा से सत्ता के विरोध में रहे हैं, लेकिन मोदीराज में सत्ता के
विरोध का विरोध एक स्थायी रुझान बनता जा रहा है| जब 2015 में
लेखकों-कलाकारों-वैज्ञानिकों ने अपने पुरस्कार लौटा कर सत्ताधारी दल की
असहिष्णुता का विरोध किया तो एक हिस्सा, भले ही इस हिस्से के लोगों का क़द
अपने-अपने कार्यक्षेत्र में उतना बड़ा न हो, उनके विरोध में उठ खड़ा हुआ| जब 23
अक्टूबर 2015 को प्रो. कलबुर्गी की शोकसभा की मांग के साथ लेखक-कलाकार साहित्य
अकादमी के कार्यकारी मंडल की बैठक के मौक़े पर अपना मौन जुलूस लेकर पहुँचे, तब
वहाँ भी भाजपा समर्थक लेखकों-कलाकारों का एक जमावड़ा इनके विरोध में मौजूद पाया
गया जिसमें नरेन्द्र कोहली जैसे औसत दर्जे के लोकप्रिय लेखक को छोड़ दें तो कोई
प्रतिष्ठित नाम नहीं था| इसके बाद अनुपम खेर के नेतृत्व में उसी वर्ष
सत्ताधारी दल के समर्थन में इंडिया गेट पर एक प्रदर्शन हुआ जिसमें कलाकारों के
नाम पर बड़ी संख्या में लम्पट तत्व शामिल थे जिन्होंने पत्रकारों और विशेष रूप
से महिला पत्रकारों के साथ खुलेआम बदसलूकी की| 2019 के आम चुनावों से पहले जब
210 बुद्धिजीवियों ने मोदीराज को ख़त्म करने की एक अपील जारी की तो कुछ ही
दिनों के भीतर मोदीराज का समर्थन करती हुई एक अपील 600 तथाकथित बुद्धिजीवियों
के हस्ताक्षर के साथ जारी की गयी| उनमें गिने-चुने ही ऐसे लोग थे जिन्हें खुद
उनके क्षेत्र में भी कोई ठीक से जानता हो|
और अब जब 49 नामचीन कलाकारों-बुद्धिजीवियों ने, जिन पर यह देश गर्व और भरोसा
करता है, प्रधानमंत्री मोदी के नाम खुला पत्र लिखा है तो जवाब में
प्रधानमंत्री ने नहीं, उनके 62 निर्लज्ज समर्थकों ने पत्रोत्तर लिख भेजा है|
यह पत्रोत्तर अडूर गोपालकृष्णन, मणि रत्नम, अनुराग कश्यप, आशीष नंदी, अपर्णा
सेन, सुमित सरकार, श्याम बेनेगल, शुभा मुदगल जैसे लोगों द्वारा उठाये गए एक भी
सवाल का जवाब नहीं देता, बस पलट कर कुछ और सवाल उठाते हुए यह साबित करने की
बेहद लचर कोशिश करता है कि मूल पत्र में आयी शिकायतें राजनीतिक पक्षधरता से
निकली हैं| दोनों पत्रों को सामने रखने पर यह बिलकुल साफ़ हो जाता है कि
राजनीतिक-दलगत पक्षधरता किस पत्र में असंदिग्ध है| जहाँ पहला पत्र मुसलमानों,
दलितों और अन्य अल्पसंख्यकों की लिंचिंग की ओर प्रधानमंत्री का ध्यानाकर्षण
करता है और उनसे यह अपील करता है कि देश के सर्वोच्च कार्यकारी के रूप में
उन्हें हत्याओं के लिए राम के नाम के दुरुपयोग तथा साम्प्रदायिक-सामुदायिक
नफ़रत से प्रेरित अपराधों के ख़िलाफ़ कठोर और निर्णायक क़दम उठाने चाहिए, वहीं
दूसरा पत्र मॉब-लिंचिंग की घटनाओं को सीधे-सीधे ‘झूठे आख्यान’ की श्रेणी में
डाल देता है और भाजपा-आरएसएस की भाषा का इस्तेमाल करते हुए (‘टुकड़े-टुकड़े’,
‘जब कैराना से हिन्दू पलायन कर रहे थे तब ये चुप थे’, ‘सबका साथ, सबका विकास,
सबका विश्वास’ इत्यादि) इन कलाकारों-बुद्धिजीवियों को मौजूदा निज़ाम के ख़िलाफ़
और इसीलिए भारत के विकास के ख़िलाफ़ साज़िश करने वालों के तौर पर पेश करता है|
पहला पत्र जहां नफ़रत से प्रेरित अपराधों के सारे आँकड़े विश्वसनीय स्रोतों से
उठाता है (मसलन, नेशनल क्राइम रिकॉर्ड ब्यूरो की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, 2016 में
दलित उत्पीड़न की 840 घटनाएं हुईं और इसके लिए सज़ा पानेवालों के प्रतिशत में
ज़बरदस्त गिरावट देखी गयी), वहीं दूसरा पत्र बेहिचक भाजपा-आरएसएस के
झूठ-विनिर्माण-संयंत्रों से उत्पादित-प्रसारित आरोपों का सहारा लेता है|
कैराना से हिन्दुओं का बड़े पैमाने पर पलायन, कश्मीरी पंडितों की समस्या पर देश
के बुद्धिजीवियों की चुप्पी, देश के विश्वविद्यालयों में आतंकवाद के समर्थन
में नारे—ये सब इसी संयंत्र में गढ़े गए किस्से हैं, यह बात साबित हो चुकी है|
जिन बुद्धिजीवियों-कलाकारों ने, केंद्र में कैसी भी सरकार हो, अपनी आलोचनात्मक
चेतना का कभी विसर्जन नहीं किया, उनके विरोध को संकीर्ण राजनीति से प्रेरित
बताना, असल में, खुद एक घटिया दलगत पक्षधरता का उदाहरण है|
बुद्धिजीवियों-कलाकारों की अपील जनता में असर करती है, क्योंकि लोगों के दिलों
में उनके लिए इज़्ज़त और भरोसा है, यह बात भाजपा-आरएसएस को पता है| साथ ही,
उन्हें यह भी पता है कि इनकी शिकायतों के विरोध में दो-चार नामचीन लोगों के
साथ औसत और गुमनाम लोगों की फेहरिस्त जोड़कर, ख़बरिया माध्यमों को
पढ़ने-सुनने-देखने वाले लोगों को एक हद तक बरगलाया जा सकता है और उनके बीच
ईमानदार बुद्धिजीवियों-कलाकारों की बनी हुई विश्वसनीयता को दरकाया जा सकता है|
प्रतिरोध का विरोध करने वाली एक टीम बनाने के पीछे यही मंशा है|
बुद्धिजीवी और कलाकार की खाल ओढ़े इन हत्या-सत्ता-समर्थकों की हम भर्त्सना करते
हैं और इनसे उम्मीद करते हैं कि भविष्य में कोई बयान जारी करते हुए ये ओढ़ी हुए
खाल की भी थोड़ी परवाह करेंगे| बुद्धिजीवी और कलाकार होने के दावेदार के रूप
में ही नहीं, बतौर नागरिक भी, इन्हें अल्पसंख्यकों और दलितों की हत्याओं का
बचाव करते हुए इस तरह का बयान जारी नहीं करना चाहिए|

Writers and artists by nature have been critical of the ruling classes, but
during the Modi regime the protests agaist those critical of the rulers
have become a permanent feature. During 2015 when a sizable number of
eminent writers, artists. scientists by returning their awards raised their
voice against growing intolerance exhibited by the Hindutva elements within
the ruling classes, a group of writers and artists of average eminnence
and skill supporting Modi administration came forward. On October 23, 2015,
when a large number of writers and artists staged a protest March to
Sahitya academy on the issue of not conceding to the demand that Academy
should organise a condolence meeting on the brutal assassination of Prof.
M M Kalburgi by the Hindutva forces, as on that day Academy was holding
meeting of its working council of which M M Kalburgi too was a member, the
BJP-RSS brought Narendra Kohli and a bunch of mediocre writers, hardly
known in the literary circles to oppose the demonstrating writers and
artists. After some days, a small demonstration at India Gate against
writers and artists was led by Anupam Kher in support of Modi regime and
against those who had returned their awards, the participants included a
number of anti-social elements who misbehaved with media persons including
some ladies covering the event. When 210 writers and artists issued an
appeal to the Indian voters in 2019 not to vote and support
communal-fascist forces led by Modi, a counter-appeal, immediately after
that, was issued by Hindutva forces signed by 600 persons hardly known as
writers and artists in India.
And now when 49 eminent artists and intellectuals who are held in
high esteem in India and abroad wrote an open letter to the Prime Minister
of India and expressed their agony on certain social issues, immediately a
counter reply signed by some 62 sycophants of BJP-RSS was issued. The
counter reply does not say anything on the issues raised by Adoor
Gopalakrishnan, Mani Ratnam, Anurag Kashyap, Ashish Nandy, Aparna Sen,
Sumit Sarkar, Shyam Benegal, Shubha Mudgal and others. On the contrary the
supporters try to prove that the issues raised were bearing a political
motive and partisanship. If one scans objectively both the letters, one can
easily recognise the politics behind the letter of the sycophants. While
the first letter draws the PM’s attention to the cases of lynching of
Muslims, Dalits and other innocent citizens and appeals to the Head of the
Indian state to take some exemplary action against these crimes committed
in the name of Rama by elements spreading communal hatred and social
divide, the second letter by sycophants tries to falsify the issues and
speaks the language of the BJP-RSS. These supporters declare the
well-meaning writers and artists of the first letter as conspirators
against the country and its development. The first letter gives the data of
offences committed by perpetrators communal hatred, from the reliable
sources such as National Crime Record Bureau that shows 840 incidents of
crimes committed against Dalits and a definite decline in the percentage
of convictions. But the letter of the sycophants depends on the propaganda
machinery of the BJP-RSS that coins slogans and illogical arguments of
atrocities on Hindu population in Kairana or the issue of Kashmiri pundits
etc. The writers and artists of the first letter always exercised their
right to express their views against social evils and governmental lapses
at the Centre with any Party at the helm of affairs. To belittle their
stature by showing them to be in the partisan politics is nothing but a
mean move of the Party in power today. The sycophants are afraid that these
writers and artists have an influence on the minds of people, so they are
under pressure to show more numbers of supporters even though their name
and fame is in doubt, and with this list they may dent the popularity of
the celebrities. This is the motive to create a counter team every time
whenever a critical voice is raised by celebrities in the country.
We condemn the counter move of those who under the guise of
artists and intelligentsia are supporting the evils of lynching and
communal violence and the regime led by the forces that commit such acts.
We hope that in future those who claim to be part of intelligentsia and
artists will not shame their identity and as writers and artists or even
as an ordinary citizen will not support blindly such statement defending
the lynching of minorities and Dalits.
