Many years ago I met an old (not obviously scarred) violin maker who
swore by using glass for scraping. He told me he would take a window pane
and let it fall to the ground to make his scrapers, and was thus able to get
a good variety of curvatures necessary for violin top and back profiling.
Glass is pretty hard and will its retain its sharpness for a while. I'd
practice on a dummy wheel first.
