Subject: AW: [HG-new] organistrum on notre dame

Hi Arle,

can you provide a bitmap of the painting? I know and took photos of
hurdy-gurdy minstrels over the portal of the cathedral in Metz, but in all
the last 25 years research on the HG I never heard about stone carvings on
Notre Dame - getting very curious ...!

Best regards,
Uli

Betreff: [HG-new] organistrum on notre dame

Hello all,

I have read about and seen drawings of what is supposed to be a solo
organistrum seen in a stone carving on Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.
I have spent some time looking for photos of this instrument, but have
not found any images in print sources or on the Web. I did find one
journal article that mentioned the existence, but it did not include a
reference or photo of the purported instrument. The drawing I have
seen lacks a lot of detail, but it is clear that it does not have a
guitar-body but rather a long "pumpkin seed" body (at least that's the
term for mountain dulcimers with the same shape). Does anyone know
anything about this carving or where I can find a decent image of it?
Even if there are no images, does anyone know where on Notre Dame the
image appears?

-Arle
