I have to be honest and say that I don't know which one it was for sure. Considering the pitch it was tuned to and the length, I'm going to assume it was a G string (no laughs, please), which would be tuned to the same pitch on the viola over a similar scale length to that of the viola. (The scale length of the viola is not standard, but 365 mm, the length of my gurdy, would not be atypical of a viola.) Again, I'm guessing and, until I take the strings remnants in and get a replacement, I won't know for certain.
