Due to the video angle it is hard to see that the rear axle is
actually adjustable.
If you watch carefully you will see and hear that he is sliding the
axle up and down to adjust the wheel pressure on the strings. The
wheel can be adjusted to apply very light pressure on the string or
none at all. If you watch the videos of Gregory Joilivet you will see
him using a tapping technique where he lifts the string from the slot
on the main bridge to play by tapping the keys to get the strings to
ring. By making the wheel height adjustable it makes it easy to "tap"
the keys and get the effect as well as change the wheel pressure on
the strings to make them very lightly bowed and thus very quiet.
There are a lot of possiblies of tricks you can do by having an
adjustable bearing on the wheel.
