The only styles of music that I am not (typically) fond of are those related to
the Dirge. But I have a soft spot for the styles typified by the same general
parameters that we associate with Romani dance music. Those pieces have
'unorthodox' timings for the most part, and they are a little more limited in
the repetitive melodic patterns that can work, but when something it created
that is melodic AND fits an unusual timing structure it is hard not to like it.

Sometimes I have to force myself to pay attention to what an artist or group is
doing, even when listening to a piece for the first time - the instrument
combination are often so familiar, the patterns so recognizable that my
attention drifts almost immediately to the interesting color of paint on the
wall. Not so with this piece. I recognize (generically) the kind of
piano/bass sound that made me a fan of many of the Narada groups, the mix and
effects, but the patterns and the use of the Gurdy in this way didn't let my
attention wander.

I love the album 'Prototyp' because it goes way out there and challenges
completely the musical comfort zone I live in, but it is not what I would call
background music in any way. It is hard to work on a project while listening
to it. But this piece, it keeps the mind engaged without putting it into
hyper-stimulation. I can see an ablum like this being set on repeat in my shop
while I am building whatever it is I am working on. I can see taking a long
time to get 'bored' with it, and I can see a collection of similar pieces
increasing my productivity in my shop in the same way that listening to ABBA
helps me clean my house 25% faster (yeah, I said ABBA. Pbbbthhhhhhhh!!!!)

I really like it. And not to mention the underlying understanding technically
of what this piece requires. I have a lot of respect for your crank hand,
sir...

If you want a bit of fun, I've uploaded another original recording to
Soundclick - it's a studio-mixed gurdy dance number in mostly 7-time!
You can have a listen to 'Pea Race' by clicking 'play hi-fi' to the right of
the pea-green picture here:

Reactions are strongly divided amongst the few who've so far heard this
recording, so I'd be most interested in any feedback!
