Hi, I just joined this group and thought I'd introduce myself. I am a
58 year old librarian in Berkeley California. I first heard a hurdy
gurdy when I was working the parking lot at a Fox Hollow music
festival back in the 60's. A woman was playing it at the top of the
hill and I dropped everything I was doing and just ran to hear it.//I
lived in Europe 5 years and hitched to the museum in the Massifs
Central in France which is just on hurdy gurdies.// And I did an
arranged marriage long ago in London to get someone from a war-torn
country into the US, and the pay was supposed to be a Sam Palmer hurdy
gurdy! (I still don't have one and I still crave one, maybe when I
retire.)// I just discovered the nyckelharpa and find it a combination
of my two favorite instruments, the hurdy gurdy and the viola da
gamba.
That's all for now...Lynne
