My day job is computer administration and security. Like everyone else I had no
problem with that link. The fact that your CPU utilization most likely peaked
to 100% (Task manager will show you that) I agree you most likely have a
Trojan. Spybot is a great spyware cleaner (I use it myself as well as CA
Security center) but is not adequate for Trojans. I recommend this Trojan
cleaner (Trojan Remover) you get a 30 day free trial and it cleans Trojans from
two important places on your computer: the registry and executables on your
hard drive. I was surprised at how many registry Trojans I had when I first ran
it. Give this a product a try along with either spybot or adaware and you
should be fine.

First of all, I am relived to learn that my experience apparently was unique.
And thanks to everyone for the helpful suggestions, which I will try as soon
as I can get some tech help, since I don't know how to carry out some of them.
BTW I had what I had thought was good anti-virus protection (updated regularly)
and had not had a problem in the 3 years I had had the laptop, but I understand
that people who write viruses strive to get ahead of the protection systems and
I have heard that some viruses can remain dormant until a later action of some
sort is executed on the computer, so it makes sense that that is what happened
in this case.

  Again, thanks to all,

I clicked on that link and had no problems. Sounds like it was caused by
something else, a virus picked up from somewhere a bit more dodgy than YouTube
perhaps?

I know that no one would ever intentionally put anything on this forum that
could cause anyone else computer problems but I wanted to put out a caveat in
case what happened with me might happen with others.

This morning I clicked on the link below and at first nothing seemed to
happen and it appeared that I had not reached You Tube (it's usually
straightforward). so I tried to go on to other work I needed to do involving
word processing and internet.

The first thing that happened was that the music would suddenly begin to
play and then would cut off after abut one second. Also all my programs
starting hanging up. I wanted to restart, hoping that would fix things but
could not even save work in order to close the programs I was running (Word,
mail, and other internet). After a while the music stopped for about 2 hours
but I was still having trouble with my programs running extremely slowly.
After a while it did let me save some things, after several minutes of trying.

I wanted to deal with the problem definitely and figured I could if I could
actually see the You Tube thing. For a long time I could not even find it on my
computer because it was not letting me see the desk top. Also all my icons at
the bottom went dark for a while and I could not even get to the work I had
been doing (some of it urgent). When I finally was able to get to the desktop
to get to You Tube I clicked on the button to close it and it appeared to close
(at least it disappeared visually) but the music continued to start suddenly,
seemingly out of nowhere, and I was only able to shut it off by turning off the
sound on the computer. I turned the sound back on after a while have not heard
anything but my programs are still not running normally.

At that point for about 30 minutes it was not letting me save anything. But
the all of a sudden it did, although still with much delay. At least I thought
is was saving, so that I could shut down the computer and restart. I then
tried to restart several times and nothing happened. I also tried the shut down
option and nothing happened. Finally I had to do a hard stop and start. After
that I hurried to Word because I need to finish a report today. However, the
last version, which had gone through all the proper save procedure, had
disappeared. I tried to find it with the search function (thinking I had
possibly mistyped something so that it would be elsewhere in my list of
documents) but it was not there. I finally found it in the general trash (took
a while because I had not cleaned that out in a long time). Of I had not, I
would have lost about 3 hours of work on the document (still spent about 2
hours on this problem, which is not totally solved because my programs are
still running slowly. Yikes! Any ideas, anyone?

I hope this was just my own blasted bad luck and an isolated occurrence,
but I did want to put out a warning, just in case.
