HI Martin,
I've missed you my duet playing buddy.
Thanks for the input on mics you have and use.
I have a pg-58 but it is not comming up as recommended by anyone.
Much appreciated
Mel

Mel, there was a discussion about this almost exactly a year ago, when I was in
the market for another microphone.  I ended up with a Shure 57A, a dynamic mic
with a supercardioid pattern that's been an old standby for years and years,
partly because of its ruggedness and ready availability at reasonable prices.
As I remember, Mitch Gordon prefers the 58A (balanced as a voice mic rather
than an instrument mic) for its brighter sound, and Alden prefers the superior
frequency response of condenser mics, but they require either a battery or
phantom power from the mixer, which poses no problem in the studio but can be
an issue in live performance.  You know what my Pajot sounds like, and even its
relatively soft sound is picked up well by the 57A.  I use a short boom stand
with the mic pointing almost straight down at the instrument, which with the
rather directional supercardioid pattern seems to offer good isolation from
other instruments and ambient
noise.  I'm far from being an expert, and have used it for much more live work
than recording, but it's worked for me.
