Hello everyone!

I read on the main page that it's customary to write an introduction
upon joining the group, so here's mine. :)

My name's Sam, I'm 27, and I'm American, but I live in Germany. I
recently became interested in the hurdy gurdy by way of what the
Germans call "Mittelalter Rock" - rock music that integrates medieval
instruments. I'm fascinated with this instrument: the sound, the
design, everything! Some of my favorite bands that use this instrument
include Schandmaul, Subway to Sally, In Extremo, and Eluveitie.

On to my question: I will have my first hurdy gurdy lesson next week,
and I'm wondering what to expect! What were some of your first
experiences with the instrument? I'm not exactly a musician, but I've
had some formal training in piano, guitar, flute, and violin, so I'm
wondering if any of these will help to prepare me for playing a hurdy
gurdy.

I really hope to be able to afford a hurdy gurdy of my own eventually,
but I know that any decent one would be out of my price range right
now. Have any of you ever purchased a used one before? Did you run
into any problems?

Anyway, I'm glad to have found this group, and I'm looking forward to
your input!

Greetings from Berlin,
Sam
