Hi, folks,

My hurdy gurdy friends, please write me off-list and tell me about your
instruments. (I'd like candor and not embarrassment, if you've got nothing
but good to say, go ahead and post.) I may be able to order one. I'd like
all the input I can get. I prefer the look of mid-19th c French style
instruments, luteback w/carved head. What do you love or hate about your
instrument? What features are worth the trouble and what aren't? How's your
luthier to work with? If the luthier is out of the USA, what's it like
getting the instrument back here? I am going to OTW, soon, and I'll see
some, but I need more info. I'll get one shot at this. There was one
instrument there by a very well known and respected builder, but it sounded
horrible to my ears. That was probably because it was a D/G being played in
beginner G/C class, not the best situation for me to evaluate his
instruments.

I like playing French dance music of various regions. Ideally, I'd like to
get a D/G and ask the Hackmans to make my Bassot work for my G/C. I still do
love him, cranky as he is. So, Alden and Cali, if you are willing, could you
please look over Bassot when I see you and give me a rough estimate for what
it would take to make him reliably playable?

What may make this possible? Did I win the lottery? No. I have a family
sponsor. Not a blank check, but opening possibilities I didn't think I had.

Thanks,
Barbara
