Hello all! My name is Frank and I've been a member of this mail group for about a year now, I think. I've never posted anything before, only paying attention to what has been posted by others ;) About two years ago, I purchased a Groddalira from one of Sweden's respected hurdy gurdy makers, Leif Eriksson. I've mainly been looking for on-line resources in order to learn how to play the hurdy gurdy. I bought a DVD from Lark in the Morning, which I though would contain a tutorial on how to play, but instead was intended on those who had bought HGs through them - with instructions on how to set it up etc. I spent three years in Cornwall (between 2006 and 2009), studying contemporary crafts and met a band called The Barveks. I managed to arrange for instructions by one of the band members, but unfortunately I had too much else to do and now I've moved back to Norway. I've been looking for others playing the HG in Norway, but so far I've come up short. I live in Bodø. It's a secluded town up north - hours from the nearest city ;)
Does anyone know of any hurdy gurdy players, tutors or makers in the vicinity of Bodø? I'm also interested in any other resources there might be on learning to play the HG. My partner is learning to play the Swedish bagpipe and fortunately for her there are allot more people around playing various forms of the pipes :P I hope I soon will catch up to her playing abilities, so that we might practice together - hehe... Thank you for your feedback! :D And thank you for lots of inspiring reading material in the past! - Frank Aakvik -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "hurdygurdy" group.
