On my instrument, the trompette string is about 1-1/2" from the side of the 
 keybox. So that would be a pretty thick spacing block, wouldn't it? I 
suppose  another option would be to mount a smaller block on the soundboard 
with 
vertical  screws, then mount the sharping lever assembly on the side of 
that. 
 
As must be obvious, I don't usually make modifications to my hurdy-gurdy  
(other than strings, cotton and shims), so I really want to know exactly what 
 I'm going to do before proceeding.
