If I should ever get round to publishing a book of tunes what would be the
best format?
I'm kept busy with caring duties but after a long wait I've just been
given a short respite break! I am looking for somewhere quiet where I can
eat and sleep for a few days at fairly low cost. U K of course, but not too
far north. Suggestions would be welcome.

Micheal,
try your local Social Work dept. I work as a carer in Scotland and we have
( a very few ) Respite Centres specifically for Carers or the Cared for.
Costs are usually met by Social Work. Get a good rest, the work you are
doing is very tiring and stressful. JON

Jon, Colin.
Doreen has been to at least four respite care homes licensed by the
council/PCT. She was poorly cared for and miserable in all of them. I was so
annoyed that I wrote a report on care homes and sent it to the PCT, who were
pleased to receive it. It served me in good stead when I refused to let
Doreen to go to one again. She now has 24 hr live-in care every 12 weeks
(instead of six) so that I can get away, but through carelessness it has
reached 17 weeks and I am absolutely (adjective of your own choice here).
There are no homes for couples here and in any case I need to get right away
in order to switch off.
Changes are being made following my report and the person concerned now
applies the ‘Muskett Test’ to any changes or new projects. But organizations
are so inflexible I think the ‘Musket Test’ would be more appropriate!
I think I have found a place, very rural but not cheap, far from the madding
crowd.

Yes the Social Workers may even have a list of places to stay on their
books. Sometimes the charities or local groups for a particular disability
may have access to accommodation as well and that includes for the carers as
well.
A short break would be very welcome I am sure. It's a demanding job.
As regards a tune book, I prefer an A3 size myself (fits into a case well
and easier to prop up without the pages folding down). The Northumbrian
Pipers Society do their tune books in this format and it seems quite
popular).
Take care,
Colin. Surely you mean A4 onA3 paper, like the Method? I thought a smaller
format might be more convenient for putting in a case, as the NUPS used to
be. I haven’t seen their latest publications – no time to play.

It reminds of me of those old videos of people singing the blues in the
south.

Very interesting indeed Arle, I downloaded it, it's part of history, musical
history of the hurdy!

Thanks.
